Selecting A Drying System To Limit Water Damage In Your Nampa Area Home

The evaporation of water on your Nampa area property typically adds moisture to the air as it moves from wet materials into the air. Dehumidification should always remove moisture from the air as fast as evaporation occurs. To dry a structure correctly, technicians must use a perfectly balanced drying system.

If the drying system technicians use to address water damage in your Nampa area home is not balanced, secondary damages may occur. However, by balancing the rate of evaporation with dehumidification, the technician can use rapid drying methods to speed up the entire process.

There are two types of drying systems SERVPRO technicians can use when addressing water damage on your property. An open drying system exchanges moist air inside for drier air outside of the structure. To exchange air, technicians open windows and use box fans or air movers to ventilate the area.

An open system only works when the outside air has fewer grains per pound (GPP) than the inside air. For the most effective drying conditions, outside air should offer high temperatures and low relative humidity (RH). The difference between the specific humidity of inside air versus that of outside air is also significant.

SERVPRO technicians only use an open drying system when the outside air is at least 20 GPP less than measurements for inside air. Using an open system also has certain disadvantages:

  • Leaving windows open creates a security risk.
  • Energy costs are high since this system effectively heats the outdoors.
  • The weather may change.
  • Additional monitoring is required.

A closed system uses containment to cordon off the affected area from both the outside air and air from unaffected areas of the structure. SERVPRO technicians then use dehumidification equipment to remove moisture from the inside air. For this system to work, technicians use air movers and dehumidifiers to control the indoor environment, maintaining an RH of 40% or lower.

SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell has qualified technicians with the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, to perform quality cleanup and restoration services throughout the area, call today. (208) 466-5000
