After Fixing a Leaking Pipe in My Nampa Home, I Have to Deal with the Water Damage. Where Should I Start?

11/18/2021 (Permalink)

Our Green Fleet is always on call and ready to safely tackle your water damage.

Call a Restoration Firm Like SERVPRO to Handle the Water Damage in Your Nampa Property

Water from a burst pipe can cause significant damage in your Nampa home if ignored. Let our technicians handle the issue to prevent costly repairs. SERVPRO has decades of experience and advanced equipment that helps us to handle water damage incidents of any size or scope.

How do you inspect for damage?

To handle the water damage in your Nampa property, we inspect the affected areas to determine the best techniques and equipment to use. Water can sip in confined spaces, such as crawl spaces, which are hard to enter and lack ventilation. To inspect the property adequately, our restoration experts can use thermal imaging cameras to see how water traveled in the area. We can also use moisture meters to check for hidden moisture in your home.

What precautions should I take after the incident?

Depending on the level of water damage, electrical safety is essential. Turn off the power supply in your property to minimize the chances of electrical hazards. Other precautions include:

  • Do not use your home vacuum to remove the water because an electrical shock can occur. The device may also get damaged.
  • Do not place newspapers on damp surfaces because the ink can transfer to the surfaces.
  • Avoid walking on wet surfaces any more than is necessary to decrease safety hazards and to avoid spreading contamination.
  • not activate your HVAC system if it has come into contact with water.
  • Avoid adjusting indoor temperatures unless restoration technicians instruct you to do so.

Can you dry the confined spaces?

Our SERVPRO restorers ensure that the drying process is thorough to avoid secondary damage, such as mold growth and odors. We can use structural cavity drying equipment to direct airflow into the confined spaces. The machine replaces the cool, moist air with warm, dry air, increasing temperature in the surfaces, lowering vapor pressure, and increasing the evaporation rate.

Using state-of-the-art equipment and edge-cutting restoration techniques, SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell can get your property to its pre-damaged condition. “Like it never even happened.” Talk to us today at (208) 466-5000.

How Can Problems with My Furniture Get Fixed During Water Cleanup in my Nampa House?

8/16/2021 (Permalink)

Water damages furniture. SERVPRO is standing by to restore your home.

SERVPRO Can Mitigate Several Issues That Occur When the Furniture in your Nampa House Gets Wet

If you suffer from a water leak on the top floor of your house, water can pour down to your lower level from the ceiling and saturate many of your structural components and possessions. Moisture coming from the top of one of your rooms and running down can affect items like your ceiling, drywall, and possibly your furniture.

What problems can occur to my furniture if it gets wet?

  • Water Spotting- During water cleanup in your Nampa house, our SERVPRO experts can fix water spots that develop on dry clean only fabrics by wetting the entire piece of furniture.
  • Color Bleeding- Colors from the fabrics, metal, or wooden legs can bleed and cause staining to your carpets that we can sometimes remove.
  • Swelling- Since most furniture has wooden frames, the wood can swell and cause the joints to become weak. Moisture can also cause the glue to break down and the joints of the frame to become damaged.
  • Mildew Growth- To reduce the chances of mold forming, we can use air movers and dehumidifiers to rapidly dry out your affected pieces of furniture.

What happens to my wooden furniture when it comes into contact with moisture?

Water spots can form on some types of finished wooden furniture. Moisture can also cause the joints in furniture to weaken and come loose. Furniture with laminated particleboard can become warped because the laminate can work as a vapor barrier and trap moisture in the wood underneath it.

How can you dry upholstered furniture?

  • First, we extract the wet upholstery with a handheld extraction tool.
  • We can then dry any buttons or zippers on your furniture.
  • We can also put your wet cushions in a tent formation so that the air movers and dehumidifiers can dry them out more quickly.

If any of the furniture inside your house ever gets wet when a pipe leaks on your second floor, call SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell at (208) 466-5000 24/7.

Where Unclean Water Damage Can Come From in Nampa

6/18/2021 (Permalink)

Storms and other causes can lead to water damage in your home. Call SERVPRO for water removal and remediation services. We are standing by 24/7.

Three Ways Gray or Black Water Can Enter Your Home

Water damage can be categorized by several determiners, one of the most important being water quality. Water can be defined as clean, gray, or black, with each category is more unclean than the last. Gray and black water damage in Nampa can come from several sources, most of them being particularly severe compared to clean water sources. Here are a few ways gray or black water can find its way into your home.

Storm Flooding

Storms cause some of the worst water damage in Nampa and surrounding areas, as the elements have few hampers on their power and come from outside the home. Thus, when water comes into the building, it often carries debris and contaminants picked up from elsewhere. Floods and other forms of storm damage can cause noticeable staining and coat your floors in mud and debris. Most storm floodwaters are thus classified as black due to their high rates of contamination.

Sewage and Unclean Water

Most homes have at least one avenue for unclean water running through them, the most common being septic and sewage systems. These can rupture or overflow and create hazardous conditions in the home. Other water sources, such as non-potable water containers and storm gutters, can also produce gray water damage. Floods and damage of this type can become dangerous biohazards, so exercise caution around them until SERVPRO technicians arrive.

Clean Water Damage and Time

In some cases, clean water flooding can become gray and black water over time. Standing water can foster the growth of mold and bacterial colonies, algae, and some types of insects, all of which can potentially cause health effects without careful precautionary measures. To avoid clean water damage worsening into a more severe state, be sure to contact SERVPRO quickly for faster water removal.

SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell has the tools and training to handle all varieties of water damage and can ensure that your home returns to its original state with as little risk, energy, and cost as possible. Call us at (208) 466-5000.

How Serious Are Safety Hazards During Water Restoration, and Who Can Assess and Manage the Risks?

10/12/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO ensures great water damage restoration to policy-backed Nampa properties. We have you covered!

Water Damage Restoration Is a Complicated Process, but SERVPRO Crews Are Highly Qualified and Prepared for Both Anticipated and Unexpected Issues Affecting Nampa Residents

Water is used for so many practical purposes in our lives that it seems strange that a leak, hose rupture, or overflow of this essential fluid in your Nampa residence causes almost instantaneous and potentially permanent damage to building materials. The best restoration outcomes occur when trained and well-equipped Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRT) arrive onsite quickly, ready to begin mitigation strategies immediately after a safety hazard assessment completes, and a control protocol is implemented.

Why Are Water-Damage Caused Hazard Inspection and Evaluation Restoration Project Priorities?

When you envision water restoration unfolding in your Nampa home, a crew wielding pumps and water extractors perhaps is the first thing that comes to mind. Upon arrival, our Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained crews await word from the project manager that they can begin to secure spaces and proceed with initial water mitigation. The manager’s decision depends on an assessment of imminent structural damage and other water damaged-based risks that could expose either or both the integrity of the structure and the health and well-being of your family and restoration workers to injury, illness, or even death. Examples include:

  • Personal hazards such as --
    • Increased slip, trip, and fall possibilities
    • Blunt head or body injury in tight or confined spaces
    • Exposure to chemical water contaminants
  • Environmental hazards such as --
    • Weakened building materials, including supports that could collapse because of trapped water or damage related to water pressure or corrosion of metals and crumbling of wood products
    • Exposure to live electrical current, especially electricity conducted through water or damp materials, that could cause shock or electrocution and could start a fire
  • Exposed biohazards among damaged building structures such as previously encapsulated but now disturbed asbestos-containing materials and surfaces containing lead-based paint or other toxic amalgams or coatings
  • Contaminants in water or on damp materials such as infectious human waste, if sewage mixes into the fluids, and molds and mildews newly exposed or currently growing and multiplying

What Strategies Control the Hazards So Water Loss Restoration Can Commence?

SERVPRO managers use their training and experience to craft an effective and efficient plan to limit harm during mitigation, remediation, and restoration efforts. Some control strategies also result in partial or full mitigation and remediation of the water damage, paving the way for final restoration interventions.

  • Temporary Shut Off of Electricity and Other Utilities

Turning off electricity, natural gas, and oil burners dramatically reduce the risk of shock or fire during water removal and drying. SERVPRO anticipates the probability of at least a short-term loss of onsite power by stocking gas-powered submersible pumps and truck-mounted extractors, using generators or fuel alternatives to prevent water evacuation delays.

  • Rapid Water Removal, Containment, and Lawful Disposal

The extraction of the water eliminates the wet surface hazards and the electrocution possibility. Using our truck-mounts and later portable units to extract the water into tanks provides the containment needed to prevent contaminated water contact with skin and dumping into untreated areas. SERVPRO is familiar with local hazardous waste disposal rules, following them as we haul away the fluids for lawful discharge.

  • Detecting and Releasing Trapped Water

Once the bulk of the unwanted water exits your home, we use advanced technologies like floor mats and Injectidry systems to remove trapped water under floorboards or tile or behind walls. To locate the hidden fluids, SERVPRO technicians use:

  • Infrared imaging
  • Moisture detectors
  • Moisture meters

On occasion, we employ controlled demolition tactics to release the water, such as:

  • Weep holes, especially where ceilings hold water
  • Drainage holes drilled or sawn in mortar joints or at the bottom of walls
  • Flood cuts that span the area between wall studs several inches above the water line, removing wet drywall and opening up the space for effective drying
  • Remediating Biohazards

Suppose we discover microbial growth like mold or mildew or hazardous heavy metals like lead or minerals like asbestos. In that case, we halt activity until SERVPRO biohazard specialists evaluate the circumstances and craft a response. Our team includes technicians certified to contain and remove these hazards safely. If needed, we can arrange for additional testing or contractors to eliminate the materials contaminated with these organisms or toxic materials.

Put your trust in SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell after a significant water loss. We have the training, experience, and equipment to address any hazards that arise as we make it “Like it never even happened.” Call for prompt assessment and water restoration planning at (208) 466-5000.

My House Has Water Damage After a Pipe Burst. Who Can Help Me to Restore it?

8/20/2020 (Permalink)

Property owners breathe a sigh of relief when the SERVPRO green fleet swiftly arrives for water loss mitigation.

Call SERVPRO Technicians in Concord Nampa to Complete the Water Damage Restoration Process.

A burst pipe has the potential to spew a lot of water in your home, which can lead to damage to building materials and items like electronics, appliances, and furniture. After a water intrusion incident, it is essential to call a competent water damage remediation firm like SERVPRO to remove the water and dry your Concord home.

Why should I hire restorers quickly?

Hiring professionals to perform water damage restoration in your Concord, Nampa home soon after noticing the water intrusion, can prevent costly secondary destruction. The longer water sits in a house, the higher the opportunity it has to ruin walls, wood, and carpets, among other materials.

What are the typical effects of water damage?

When water pools in a home, it can create a wide range of unwanted secondary effects. They include:

Decreased value of your property

Chipping of paint and wallpaper

Destruction of carpets

Rotting of wood flooring

Mold infestation

Multiplication of bacteria

My crawl space is flooded. How can you fix it?

If the crawl space of your home is flooded, our water remediation experts can take different steps to restore it based on the severity of the damage. A water-damaged crawl space is challenging to enter because the access door is often small. Some water restoration equipment cannot pass through the door, or there may be inadequate room for dehumidifiers to stand. If necessary, our restorers can remove the insulation to create room for restoration equipment.

Our restorers can identify the lowest point in the affected area and use a suitable submersible pump to extract most of the stagnant water. After water removal, the next step is to use the most effective method to dry the floor’s structural components. If mold is growing in the crawl space, we can remove it and eliminate harmful spores from the air.

Is it possible to salvage my wet furniture?

The factors that can determine if our restorers can salvage your wet furniture include the materials used to make it and the severity of the damage. Our SERVPRO team can use the latest techniques and tools to restore your water-damaged furniture.

Why is there a foul smell in my home?

A majority of building materials are designed to absorb a specific degree of moisture. However, if the limit is exceeded, the materials start eroding, and they release minute organic compounds into the air. The decay is an ongoing process that continues until the moisture is allowed to escape or dry. Therefore, the smell can linger in your home for some time. We can remove the odor using deodorization equipment and products.

After a water intrusion incident, hiring water remediation experts is vital. Call SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell at (208) 466-5000 for effective restoration.

What Helps Speed Up Water Cleanup In Nampa?

6/14/2020 (Permalink)

Water damage restoration should never be stressful, which is where we are here to help at SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell.

If Your Nampa Home Suffers Water Damage, Our Team at SERVPRO Has Advanced Technology to Get it Cleared Up Rapidly

Dealing with a water leak is never a situation that any homeowner wants to deal with. However, you need to know that the faster you act, the easier it is to limit the amount of loss and cost involved for total restoration. SERVPRO has the manpower as well as the equipment necessary to speed up your water cleanup so that your Nampa home is back to preloss condition faster than DIY methods alone.

Why Can't I Go the DIY Route?

A natural reaction to water damage in Nampa is grabbing the nearest mop to pull up as much water as possible. You may think that you can keep it from migrating to other rooms or from damaging your carpet. However, the chances are good that water already seeped into other areas. What is essential now becomes trying to locate all areas of hidden moisture so that they can get appropriately addressed. When you call SERVPRO for your water cleanup needs, you can count on us for:

    •    Tried-and-true water cleanup techniques
    •    A team of dedication water restoration technicians (WRT) that understands the best approach for handling water damage
    •    Advanced technology made for water extraction, drying, water detection, and deodorizing
    •    Rapid, efficient planning that helps to limit the onset of secondary damage

What to Expect Once You Notice the Leak

It is recommended that immediately after the leak is detected that you try to control the source. This means looking for the shut-off valves connected to the area where the leak originated. In some instances, homeowners may have to get the main water supply turned off. It is then imperative that you call in the help of trained professionals so that expert mitigation can begin.

With a single call to SERVPRO, we deploy a team to your location as soon as possible. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for emergency restoration services. This means that we can be to your home in as little as four hours to begin assessment and water cleanup. Our Green Fleet arrives loaded with equipment, and our crew chief evaluates to determine the best course of action. The detailed plan formulated from this assessment tells the team how to proceed with each step, including the type of equipment and number of units necessary to ensure ultimate efficiency.

What if I Have Hardwood Floors?

Some floor finishes tend to make hardwood less prone to saturation. Our team uses moisture meters to determine the levels of exposure and saturation after all standing water gets extracted. The longer that your hardwood flooring has contact with water, the more damage sets in. Addressing hardwood flooring with expert drying techniques within the first 24 hours of contact with water gives you the best chance of salvaging them. We have specialized drying equipment to help force airflow beneath the flooring surface so that moisture can be released.

The best course of action might be controlled demolition if saturation took hold and moisture penetrated the flooring for an extended period. During this process, the team removes the unsalvageable materials, and everything gets replaced with brand-new hardwood floors.

Some of the Water Soaked Nearby Carpeting – Now What?

Extraction is critical with any water loss project we get called to in Nampa. We have specialized tools designed to efficiently remove water so that we can save as many contents, building materials, and structural elements as possible, including:

    •    Truck-mounted pump extractors
    •    Submersible pumps
    •    Wet Vacuums
    •    Light wand extractors, and more

Successfully handling saturated carpets includes the use of sophisticated technology like probing moisture meters. This allows us to determine the level of damage beyond the surface.

    •    We have weighted extractors, or rovers, that use the technician's weight to push water from the carpeting so that it can be removed.
    •    Carpet wands help to remove water from carpets by addressing the surface layer.
    •    Our team also uses centrifugal air movers to help dry carpets. Known as floating, we force air between the padding and the surface carpet layer to dry them simultaneously. This is a process that works best if the subflooring below is not yet affected by moisture.

Should the carpet be damaged beyond repair, we perform controlled material removal. This allows us to direct our focus to the materials below, such as the subflooring, joists, and supports. Salvaging these materials helps avoid costly and invasive restoration efforts moving forward.

Each water restoration project we take on is finished up with thorough cleaning and disinfection of the affected areas. Our goal is always to ensure your interior is just “Like it never even happened.”

Water damage restoration should never be stressful, which is where we are here to help at SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell. To have a team deployed to your home, give us a call at (208) 466-5000.

What Can Cause Water Damage to your Nampa home?

4/10/2020 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

Avoid Hazardous Conditions and Severe Damage to Your Nampa home, Call the Water Loss Professionals at SERVPRO

The chaos that ensues after a dramatic bursting of a pipe or rupture of a water heater has one silver lining--the source of the water damage is clear. A more frustrating but just as destructive scenario faces you when you see subtle signs of water loss, but the cause is unknown. When you see the peeling of paint or staining on a ceiling, you have a water problem, but many questions remain, and a cure is elusive.

How Do You Figure Out Where Water Damage Comes From?
Your ceiling is telling you a story, and you need a translator to explain where the water damage in your Nampa house originated. Hiring trained and certified Water Restoration Technicians (WRT) is the most reliable way to investigate the mystery. Our company has training and more than ten years of experience in tracing water damage to the leak, spillage, malfunction, or another event that set the destruction in motion, why our crews are leaders in the industry.

Why Does the Reason for Water Damage Matter if the Damage is Fixed?
Cosmetic fixes and coverups can make your ceilings look better, but only when the SERVPRO team identifies the real problem is the solution permanent. Failure to take the time and steps needed to discover the underlying issues guarantees the continuing destruction of building materials and the risk of severe secondary damage like mold growth.

What Are Some Top Reasons for Residential Ceiling Damage?
Shower and Tub Overflows
An incompletely closed shower door or curtain can send water across a bathroom floor. Even after mopping up, the moisture can seep through cracks in grout lines or down through the joint between the side of the tub and the floor. It might look great upstairs, but a day or two later brown spots and flaking paint on the kitchen ceiling pose the query to you and the SERVPRO crew--when did this water damage happen? We work hard to figure out the cause and then dry the structures.

Upper-Level Laundry Rooms
Why are laundry rooms increasingly located on the upper levels of homes? Washing bed linens and clothes are far easier, and the stashing of dry and clean items is much more straightforward when the equipment is handy. What is the downside of an upstairs laundry room? Any of the following can happen:

    •    Broken hose
    •    Defective pump
    •    Clogged utility sink drain

These events can spew gallons of water that have nowhere to go but percolating through floors to collect above ceilings. If you see a sagging bulge in the ceiling tiles or drywall above you, call for help from the SERVPRO team. Why? Managing a water-loaded ceiling is a significant safety hazard, and a job for our professionals trained to complete appropriately.

Ice Dams
Why are icicles a sign of potential interior water damage? Snow, ice, and the tendency of heat to rise are all answers. During our cold winters, any precipitation can collect in a gutter, especially one that is clogged with leaves or other debris. If your attic has inadequate insulation or the roofline is not sealed where it meets the house, warm air rises to melt the icy mix in the gutters.

When it melts, the liquid water leaks inside, and then as the temperature plunges, the ice forms again. Expansion during the freezing opens the joints between roof and house even further and contributes to damaging shingles and flashing. Rely on SERVPRO to locate areas of your roof showing melt and thaw cycles. We can help with insulation evaluation and upgrade as well as sealing the holes that release the warm air.

Chimney Leaks
A fireplace is a favorite spot in the home for family and friends to gather. Cozy crackling and warm, fragrant odors signal all is well inside your world, and the fireplace. If unpleasant, musty smells or unexplained staining on wall surfaces above the firebox occur, you have cause for concern. Dripping heard or water seen in the fireplace or staining on the ceiling around the chimney stack should sound an alarm.

Water damage has so many causes, you might not make the connection that the staining and dampness you see is because of your chimney leaking into the ceiling. How can a professional tell if a chimney leak is a reason for ceiling water damage?

    •    The chimney cap is absent or poorly fitting
    •    The chimney crown is cracked
    •    Condensation occurs because the interior of the chimney is unlined or poorly waterproofed
    •    The flashing around the chimney has damage

Have our SERVPRO experts examine the construction of the chimney to see if repairs are needed. We can refer any repair, refitting, or rehabbing to our construction division or to the chimney contractor or mason of your choice.

Reliable and full-spectrum investigation and solutions for water damaged ceilings are why SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell is the restoration company you can trust. Call us at (208) 466-5000 to get answers and solutions.

Water Causing Damage in Nampa Homes Cannot Hide from SERVPRO

Mitigating Closet Water Damage in a Nampa Home

Water damage is one of the most common disaster occurrences in any home and can be exceptionally costly in areas like bedroom closets and other storage areas. While carpet and pad can usually dry within 24 to 48 hours of minor incidents, mold can also proliferate in that much time, which can create further damage and potential structural issues.

If your Nampa residence has suffered water damage, SERVPRO technicians can be at your home within hours of your call to restore your home to a preloss condition. This crew is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to address disasters quickly. SERVPRO works with homeowners and insurance adjusters alike to restore structures and salvage possessions when it is safe and feasible to do so.

Minimizing Damage to Closet Items
?    Allow clothing, linens, and other items to dry completely before storing. Ensure that these possessions are clean to minimize the risk of mold and mildew. Allow air to circulate by not packing items too tightly.
?    Keep the door closed if the room is in a high humidity area like a bathroom, especially after using the shower.
?    If you notice odors in your closet, keep the door open as much as possible. Air out your closets periodically by removing items before thoroughly cleaning and drying the closet.
?    Use vinyl-coated wire shelving to improve air circulation. Keep shoe boxes and storage materials on wire shelves rather than on the floor to prevent trapping moisture.
?    Use a low-hanging, low-wattage light source. This type of lighting adds heat to the environment. To maximize safety, make sure that this light source is kept away from flammable items.

How SERVPRO Can Help
When a SERVPRO team comes to your home after a disaster, technicians can begin by measuring moisture levels in flooring and walls with both penetrating non-penetrating moisture sensors and meters. If there is moisture present behind walls and baseboards, they can also use infrared cameras. Tools like Thermo-hygrometers are used to measure relative humidity and determine drying goals. If your carpet has been affected by closet water damage, technicians can use portable, back-mounted extractors to thoroughly remove water and prepare the area for drying with centrifugal air movers and industrial-grade dehumidifiers.

Inspecting and Repairing At-Risk Plumbing in Nampa this Winter.

10/20/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO will help your Nampa home get away from water damage from freezing pipes.

This winter don’t let the cold take over your Nampa home with water damage.

Cold snaps might be profitable for the restoration business because of the water damage they can cause when Nampa residences contend with frozen pipes, but we would prefer that our customers stayed prepared for these damaging circumstances instead. Every year homeowners get surprised by the sudden extreme temperature drops that can freeze interior pipes and flood a home when this pipe succumbs to a pressure build and bursts at a weak point.

Instead of waiting for these frozen pipes in Nampa homes, property owners can and should take preventative actions before the worst portions of the winter season to have the system inspected for potential concerns. While you cannot always access the entirety of your plumbing network, large portions of this system can get inspected from hub areas like the basement – and this is also where much of the freezing of pipes takes place as well.

An inspection of the pipes should indicate areas where insulation is insufficient so that you can work to improve these areas before they become a costly problem. Re-insulating your pipes can be a very cost-effective solution compared to the estimated restoration costs that you might receive from our SERVPRO team, who must extract standing water and dry out saturated materials and contents. You might also discover areas where the plumbing has never gotten insulated. A good rule of thumb is to cover every exposed portion of pipe, regardless of how guarded you believe it might be from the cold air of winter.

Weakened areas of plumbing are also more susceptible to these issues, and breaches after freezing happen at the most compromised point on the plumbing lines nearby. If you discover leaks, areas of scaling and erosion, or rusting pipes, you should allow our SERVPRO licensed contractors to help you address these concerns with new portions of plastic pipes before they become a catastrophic situation.

Winter is seemingly always just around the corner here, and even though it can offer some picturesque scenery, it can leave your home a flooded mess as well. Let our SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell team help you safeguard your house or quickly manage a damaging water loss situation when it arises. Give us a call anytime at (208) 466-5000.

Steps for Handling Water Damage in Your Nampa Property After a Pipe Bursts

9/9/2019 (Permalink)

We know the step by step process to handle your Nampa water damage.

We know the step by step process to handle your Nampa water damage.

Water damage can occur in Nampa homes because of broken pipes. A burst pipe that is hidden in the ceiling or walls can deposit several gallons of water quickly throughout your home, and this can cause panic. Water is destructive and it can warp wood, shrink furniture, and ruin carpeting within a short time.

When you find water damage in your Nampa home, you can take a few steps to prevent additional destruction. The first step is figuring out where the water is coming from. This can be tricky, depending on the location of the water loss. For instance, it can be challenging to identify precisely where the water is coming from if the ceiling is soaked. If you cannot identify the source of the water, call a professional.

If you find the source of the water, shut it off. If any electronics are present in the affected areas, turn off the electricity or remove the electronics from the room. You should also move any possessions sitting in the water to prevent secondary damage that could make them unsalvageable. There may be heavy furniture that you cannot move. In that case, restoration experts can place the furniture on blocks to keep it out of the water. You may also have immovable vanities and cabinets. You need the help of SERVPRO franchise professionals to determine if there is water behind the items.

The other step is to remove the standing water. If the volume of water is low and the affected area is relatively small, you can use a shop vac to remove it. If the affected area is over 100 sure feet, getting help from professional restorers is vital. Our Water Damage Restoration Technicians (WRTs) can determine the spread of the water and remove it using portable pumps.

After removing the standing water, there are damp building materials that should be removed or dried in place. Failing to dry your home effectively can lead to mold growth, which can ruin your home further or cause health problems. It is crucial to use moisture detecting equipment to find hidden water damage. Some equipment we use to check for moisture in a building includes:

  • ·        Thermal imaging cameras

  • ·        Moisture sensors

  • ·        Penetrating and non-penetrating moisture meters
  • ·        Thermo-hygrometers

We also have professional drying equipment, including air movers and dehumidifiers. We place several air movers in a home to get the water granules into the air through evaporation. Our WRTs then run dehumidifiers to remove this humidity from the air. We monitor the specific humidity of the air in a building and the air coming from a dehumidifier. The specific humidity is the actual amount of moisture in the air, and it should decrease as your home dries.

Water loss incidents are a significant inconvenience to homeowners.  If water has pooled in your home, call SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell (208) 466-5000 for immediate restoration services. We can solve your water loss problem to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Don't handle your water damage alone. Call the professionals at SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.

Professional Restoration For Water Damaged Nampa Homes

Nampa residents are probably a little too used to flood warnings what with the waterways running through town. When a pipe breaks or a water heater rusts out though, no one is ready for that.

Remediating homes with water damage in Nampa requires a professional service with up-to-date training and equipment. Every SERVPRO restoration team has both. Each home is different, but the example here has many of the services our technicians routinely perform.

After the team finished removing the standing water, they immediately began pulling out property too damaged for restoration. It consisted mostly of books and newspapers that were stored in the basement and on the bottom shelf of two bookcases. The team also threw out the bookcases in the basement since they were composite wood which absorbed much water and became so warped that could no longer stand upright.

Next, our technicians took care of the floors, carpets, and rugs. For the wood floor in the master bedroom, they directed air movers to blow warm air across the hardwood to carefully dry them without causing any further issues like splintering along the edges of the floorboards.

For the carpets and rugs, SERVPRO team members used extraction wands to draw out the water. They hung the rugs outside since there was no rain expected, and allowed them to dry in the sun. For the carpets, technicians had to roll them up to dispose of the pads underneath since they had already begun to flake and crumble.

Specialists then cleaned the concrete floors underneath and dried them with air movers. Next, they laid down a new carpet pad, but the owner preferred to have a separate agency stretch the carpet back in place.

The cause of all this damage was a split hose that ran into the dishwasher. After the team pulled the dishwasher out, technicians discovered it had been leaking for a long time before finally splitting apart. Over the previous months, the water crumbled the drywall behind it and rotted the floor trim. Fortunately, the wall framing behind it was undamaged, so replacing the panel and the floor trim went very quickly, and we returned the home to the owner right on schedule.

Here at SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell, our goal is to restore or replace every item damaged by the water intrusion into your residence. We are here for you and your home, so if you need our services, call us today at (208) 466-5000 to get started.

Drying Out Carpeting in Nampa Homes After Water Damage

6/30/2019 (Permalink)

Let us save your flooring.

SERVPRO can and will save you the trouble.

Water loss incidents can spread quickly through a Nampa home, and without a fast reaction to the situation, more than just the immediate areas around the source can become affected. With the tendency for water to collect and pool along the flooring of the property, materials like carpeting can become magnets for saturation. Without the appropriate equipment, homeowners cannot hope to remove all of this moisture from the flooring, which can ultimately lead to secondary effects and further degradation of the carpet and subflooring.

To overcome water damage in your Nampa residence, that has specifically targeted your carpeting, you need experienced professionals with advanced tools and equipment. Our SERVPRO team has extensive experience in water loss recovery, along with training and certifications from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) in both Water Restoration (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD.) Our skilled professionals can arrive with the tools to begin removing standing water and drying out saturated elements right away.

Specialized equipment like our weighted extractors plays a role in removing saturation from both the carpets and the subflooring beneath. With a heavy roller with a vacuum attached, we can remotely navigate the machine over every portion of exposed carpeting. The machine forces water to the surface for collection by the vacuum, allowing drying efforts to follow to be more efficient and successful.

Whether we can float the carpets and clean them to return your flooring to its original condition or it needs to get replaced by our experienced SERVPRO professionals, we stand behind our work. We offer a full five-year guarantee on the work that we do to ensure that our customers have peace of mind in the work that gets done in their residence.

No matter how severe water loss incidents might be in your home, flooring like your carpets is always the most susceptible to the worst of the saturation. Our SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell can help with effective extraction and drying solutions. Give us a call anytime at (208) 466-5000.

Moisture is an ongoing issue for basements. SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell has solutions. Call us!

Solutions for the Wet Basement in Your Nampa Home

Many Nampa basements battle dampness and moisture, and many homeowners have unfortunately given up trying to fight these effects and chosen to avoid this lower level of their home and its potential problems instead. With so many homes throughout the area with these subterranean levels, many factors can affect the blockwork of the foundation to allow moisture to penetrate the room. Additionally, concrete flooring, even poured to the adequate thickness, can become susceptible to moisture leeching from the damp ground beneath it.

Many Nampa homeowners might believe that this level of water damage is a common component to living in this area of the country, but there are steps you can take to keep your property and its occupants safer. Our SERVPRO professionals have witnessed firsthand how easily moisture and dampness in lower levels of area homes can turn into worse effects like mold and microbial growth, not to mention, how damaging persistent dampness and moisture can be to structural elements.

Even if you are unaware of how the water can penetrate your basement, we have experienced professionals with sophisticated tools that can help. With thermal and infrared cameras, as well as moisture content readers and hygrometers, our team can quickly note the source of the dampness in your basement and devise practical solutions to address these concerns. We have a full-service team of contractors that can install sump pumps, regrade basement flooring, and apply waterproofing materials and hydraulic cement over compromised portions of the block wall.

Our SERVPRO team works quickly to ensure that the dampness and moisture of your basement do not become a detrimental presence to your entire house. It does not take much for these effects of spreading to more heavily trafficked areas, which can lead to a spread in structural compromise and the potential for health hazards like fungal growth in areas where exposure to humans and pets is much more likely.

While there are multiple ways that water damage can occur in your basement, our SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell team can help. With a full-service team of contractors and water restoration specialists, we can offer effective solutions to make these effects “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call anytime at (208) 466-5000.

Become Familiar With How to Detect a Pipe Break in Your Nampa Home

12/16/2018 (Permalink)

When pipes freeze or break in the walls of your home, contact SERVPRO to investigate the extent and remediate the damage.

Frozen Fixtures Cause Water Damage in Nampa Homes

Frozen pipes are an ever-present concern for Nampa residents as the winter begins. With sometimes extreme temperature drops throughout the season, outside fixtures like hose bibs can become susceptible to freezing. With a blockage in the line, pressure can build throughout the internal plumbing in your home and burst just inside of this fixture, affecting the inside of your house.

Many homeowners do not even know they have inadequate insulation on these pipes and fixtures until water damages in Nampa occur. Often there are shutoffs for these pipes independent from the total plumbing network, but without shutting these down before the winter sets in, these pipes close to the outside of your home (and most susceptible to the freezing temperatures) remain full of water.

When a pipe bursts in the walls of your home, you need an immediate response from professional restorers like our SERVPRO team. We can arrive quickly to identify where the break has occurred using our leak detection equipment. These tools search for audio cues inside of the walls to identify the precise point of the break so that our professionals do not have to remove more of the wall than necessary to repair the damage that has occurred.

With fast extraction equipment designed to pull excess water from the floors and wall cavities of your home quickly like our extraction wands and portable pumps, we can get your home prepared for the critical drying stage as efficiently as possible. Our moisture detection equipment can help to identify the highest concentrations of dampness and moisture in the affected area to show our SERVPRO technicians where to set up the air movers and dehumidifiers for optimal results.

Frozen pipes are unfortunately something that many homeowners in the area must contend with when insulation is inadequate for the lower temperatures. Our SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell rapid response team can quickly identify the break and has the industry-leading equipment to restore your home fast. Give us a call anytime that you need us at (208) 466-5000.

Water Removal Technicians In Nampa Talk About The Emergency Extraction Phase

Water is a necessity that all humans need for life, but it can also be a destructive force if it leaks inside your Nampa home. It is bound to happen every few years or so that a pipe breaks or an appliance malfunctions flooding your home requiring that you call in water removal experts such as our SERVPRO team. As soon as you notice moisture where it is not supposed to be, it is important that you pick up the phone and call us. If moisture affects any organic materials inside your home like wood or paper, then mold can form in 48 to 72 hours. When you call us, we come out immediately and begin the water removal process so that secondary problems with fungi do not develop in the future.

Our SERVPRO technicians are available 24 hours a day because we know that starting mitigation promptly is essential. After we make sure the affected area is free of any safety hazards, we begin conducting water removal inside your Nampa residence. The first stage to mitigating excessive moisture issues is to extract as much standing water and moisture that exists inside porous materials like carpet as possible.

If there are more than two inches of standing water somewhere inside your home, then our SERVPRO team uses a submersible pump to pull out the majority of the water. The water then gets disposed of properly into a sewage drain. If the carpets inside your home are saturated, we can use heavy duty extractors to pull out the moisture.

Locally Owned Company with National Resources

We have both portable extraction units for those tight spots and truck-mounted systems that have serious suction power. On some carpets, we use a weighted extraction tool that the technicians stands on while operated. The tool uses the body weight of its operator to squeeze thick, wet carpets so that more moisture can get sucked out of it. If furniture items such as your couches get wet, then we can use small handheld extraction wands to remove moisture in all of the cracks inside the couch. If you ever notice water where it is not designed to be, call SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell at (208) 466-5000 24 hours a day.

How To Handle Water Cleanup In Nampa

9/19/2018 (Permalink)

Since water cleanup in Nampa is a combination of different actions, it is vital to know what to prioritize.

How To Handle Water Cleanup

It is ironical that water, which is synonymous with cleaning, causes damages that require thorough cleanup if it reaches unwanted areas of a property. Just like you use the water for all kinds of cleaning procedures, the damages it causes in the affected Nampa property vary. For example, it can dissolve colors causing transfer of stains between materials such as curtains to carpets. It also causes rusting which also leads to staining, and if standing water is left in place too long, mold develops. We offer professional cleanup services that make it easier to deal with any of these problems.

Since water cleanup in Nampa is a combination of different actions, it is vital to know what to prioritize. Because it might be your first incidence of loss, you might not know what to prioritize unlike when working with a professional restoration team like SERVPRO. When dealing with different materials such as wood and carpet, the higher priority goes to wood because if left to absorb water, other problems like warping can occur. We create a hierarchical to-do list immediately after arriving at your property thus preventing unnecessary damages.

A bad odor is typical after an incidence of water damage. Sometimes the water might dissolve chemicals or even everyday deposits such as pet waste within the home leading to the bad odor. Removing what dissolved in the water is the only way to get rid of such odor. Our SERVPRO technicians use various professional grade products to clean up affected areas. Sometimes such waste might be deposited in areas hard to reach, but with our extensive experience, we can deal with it. In case the odor does not disappear immediately after cleaning, we can also provide masking agents to conceal it until it clears.

Proper drying after a cleaning exercise is also crucial because leaving excess moisture in the property leads to mold development and rotting. Depending on the situation, our SERVPRO team uses different equipment including air movers, dehumidifiers and drying mats to dry your property effectively.

For proper water loss cleanup call SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell at (208) 466-5000. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Are Move-outs Essential After Water Damage to Your Caldwell Property?

1/3/2018 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Offers "Pack-Out" Options to Mitigate Water Damage in Caldwell

SERVPRO Assists to Mitigate Damage to Your Home After Water Intrusion

Move-outs are challenging projects for a homeowner after water damage. It is a complicated process that involves many steps. However, if the damage is too extensive, a vacating of the premises is the best option.

Thankfully, here at SERVPRO, we have a team of technicians that can help you prepare for move-outs after water damage to your Caldwell property. The most important things that our technicians consider during move-outs is your satisfaction. However, what does a move-out involve? Let us find out.

What is a move-out?
A move-out involves transporting the contents of your water-damaged home to a remote location. Our facility offers an excellent "pack-out" and clean up service for our customers. Moving the content to such a remote location can significantly speed up the process of restoration. SERVPRO technicians are experienced to handle move-outs like the pros that they are. We make sure that your stuff is handled with care and there is no secondary damage to your belongings during the process.

When are move-outs essential?
Many reasons warrant move-outs. Some of the reasons are as follows.
1. If the water damage is due to structural damage to your property, move-outs can help fasten the remodeling process. In many cases, remodeling is the critical step that prevents the family from occupying their home, and if they are initiated quickly, they can come back sooner.

2. The other reason for a move-out is to protect the belongings from secondary damage. SERVPRO technicians help you to decide the pack-outs based on the extent of the damage and also the value of your belongings. For instance, if you have expensive paintings or antique furniture, this is a good option. We can also partner with outside contractors for the specific restoration of artwork and the rebuilding of parts of your property when necessary.

3. If the flooding is extensive, the SERVPRO technicians work rapidly to extract the damaging water. The high residual moisture can cause secondary mold damage to the property if not efficiently dried. Having the family move-out can help out technicians dry the property better and prevent secondary damages.

We are here to help you get any water damage under control. Call SERVPRO at Nampa/ Caldwell today at (208) 466-5000 to discuss your situation.

Reducing the Cost of Your Water Damage Repair in Middleton

Our Floor Mat Drying System, Restoring a Hardwood Floor in Middleton

One of the keys to keeping costs down on a water damage repair is to call us immediately.

That way we can get started extracting and drying as soon as possible. We will deploy our state of the art equipment and Certified Water Restoration Technicians to save and restore your home and valuables before costlier damage can occur.

If water remains in the materials of your home for an extended period, it will migrate into cracks and crevices and deeper into materials. If the materials remain wet more than 48 hours, it is likely that mold will begin to grow. Mold makes property restoration more difficult and more expensive, and can render some materials unrestorable.

Our professional water restoration equipment is much more powerful and effective than wet-dry vacs or home dehumidifiers. Our extractors draw a much higher vacuum than a wet dry vac is capable of, and our low-grain refrigerant (LGR) dehumidifiers reduce humidity to much lower levels than conventional dehumidifiers.

The photograph at right illustrates our floor mat drying system in action at a residential water damage in Middleton last week. The system can extract moisture and restore even deeply saturated hardwood flooring. While the flooring may still require refinishing, refinishing is less expensive than replacing your hardwood floor by orders of magnitude.

Another key to reducing the cost of a water damage repair is in making sure you find all of the moisture, and then only drying the areas that need to be dried. This requires specially designed moisture probes and thermo-hygrometers. These measurement devices enable the technician to identify what materials are wet, how wet they are, and then use formulas to determine the size and type of equipment that will be required to achieve "drying goals." Drying goals are established by testing the moisture content of materials that are unaffected. This helps reduce cost by giving the technician a known stopping point at which the size and number of equipment items can be reduced or removed entirely.

Time is a critical factor in the repair cost of a water damage emergency. So don't wait to call us if you experience a water leak, flood or sewer backup.  We guarantee we will be on the job within no more than 4 hours of receiving notice of your loss, but our goal is to make it within 1 hour, and we often do.

How Much Will My Property Damage Restoration Job Cost?

Questions About the Cost of Your Property Damage Restoration Job in Nampa, Caldwell, Middleton, Homedale or Parma? Call SERVPRO at 208-466-5000

Each property damage restoration situation is unique, and there is no "standard" cost. It is common for there to be concealed damage, or for the job to take longer than initially expected. Each job must be estimated individually, but often the actual total cost cannot be known until the job is complete.  The rates for equipment and labor charges are often negotiated in advance with the insurance companies, much like the charges for medical services.

The Cost of Water Damage Restoration in and around Nampa

Much of our water damage restoration work consists of drying, cleaning and restoring building materials after we have removed the non-salvageable materials. The equipment used to remove the water and dry out the materials consists primarily of extraction tools and drying equipment such as commercial grade dehumidifiers, low grain refrigerant dehumidifiers, and air movers (ducted fans). Water extraction and cleaning costs are based on the size of the affected area (cost/sq. ft.). Drying equipment is billed on a daily rental basis, and the number and size of equipment items required are based on the size (in cubic feet) of the affected area, and severity, and the number of days it takes to dry. A good rule of thumb for the industry is three days of drying time. It can take longer for deeply saturated materials. Some materials, especially when saturated, are harder to dry than others (such as large structural wood members, concrete or plaster) and may require additional drying time and more expensive equipment, such as heaters or desiccant dehumidifiers. If there is a power outage or insufficient power to run the equipment, power generators may be necessary, and they are also billed at a daily rate.  Water restoration can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars for a typical home.  For larger jobs, including commercial restorations that involve entire buildings that are flooded, the cost can be much higher.

The Cost of Mold Remediation in and around Caldwell

Mold remediation is usually more expensive than water restoration. Normally it requires the construction of a containment barrier, special protective clothing, and air scrubbing equipment. The contents in the affected area must usually be removed and cleaned, and then stored until the remediation is complete and it passes a clearance test.  The typical price ranges from one or two thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars.   Mold growth can begin within 48 - 72 hours, So if your building is wet, it's much better to get started on drying it out immediately, before mold growth can begin.

The Cost of Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration

Fire and Smoke Restoration costs tend to range from a few thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. Normally every square inch of the building and contents that were not destroyed by heat or flames must be thoroughly cleaned and deodorized. The building contents must usually be removed from the building, cleaned and then stored.  Once the restoration is complete, and the building has been approved for occupancy, the contents are returned.  Access can be provided to a customer’s stored contents by request during normal business hours.

The Cost of Trauma or Crime Scene Cleaning and Restoration

Crime scene or trauma scene restorations, also called biohazard cleanup, typically range from the low thousands up twenty-five or thirty thousand dollars, depending mostly upon the size of the affected area and how long it has been exposed.

The Cost of Reconstruction

Since reconstruction cost is directly related to how much is affected and how much material was saved and restored, there really isn’t a typical reconstruction cost.  There are some restoration jobs that require no reconstruction at all, and others where the structure is destroyed and must be rebuilt from the ground up.

If you have more questions about the cost of restoring your damaged home or business, please call SERVPRO of Nampa Caldwell at 208-466-5000, and we will be glad to come out and give you a free estimate.
