Who Offers No-Hype Mold Damage Remediation in Nampa?

8/10/2021 (Permalink)

Did you find mold in your home? Call SERVPRO!

Honesty, Practical Tips, and Adherence to the Science of Moisture Control are Why SERVPRO Delivers Reliable Mold Abatement to Nampa Residents

Perhaps one of the most unsettling problems residents of Nampa face is mold damage. Concern about black mold, in particular, can be rampant, and if you fear your home has an infestation, panic can rise.

Should Nampa Homeowners Complete Black Mold Repairs without Professional Assistance?

Finding bathroom, basement, or even attic mold can feel embarrassing, making you want to try DIY mold removal options. Reaching and maintaining a mold-free environment using consumer mold elimination products alone is not a reasonable goal. Mold spores are everywhere. Keeping them from growing into waves of colonies is a job for professionals, why SERVPRO offers Nampa residents mold remediation services based on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) model.

How Does the EPA Mold Remediation Model Work?

The EPA protocol does not promise to eliminate all mold spores, why SERVPRO’s mold specialists are called mold remediators, not removers. The process includes the following services:

  • Mold location
  • Physical containment of the affected space, wrapping the areas in 1.6 mil polyethylene
  • Installation of negative pressure air scrubbers to filter and exhaust floating contaminants
  • Mechanical removal of mold colonies using brushes and scrapers
  • Tear out of mold-ruined porous materials if innovations like soda and dry ice blasting are ineffective at removing the visible colonies and incapacitating the embedded hyphae
  • Clean up of residues and then bagging and disposing of moldy materials as hazardous waste
  • Applying surface EPA-registered antimicrobials

Will Mold Damage Return After Remediation?

Avoiding the need for repeated mold remediation in Nampa requires moisture management. Spores grow and multiply in damp areas within 24 to 48 hours. Avoiding mold growth is a primary reason why SERVPRO stresses that water damage in any area of your home needs immediate mitigation and remediation.

Mold remediation expertise is why SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell awaits your call. Contact us 24/7 at (208) 466-5000.

Can Kitchen Water Damage Restoration in Nampa Be Complete Without Checking Under Cabinets?

7/16/2021 (Permalink)

When a leak springs in your kitchen, SERVPRO is the team to call. Water damage restoration is a job for us. Call now!

Proven Strategies to Release Water Trapped in your Nampa Kitchen to Avoid Odors or Additional Damage is Why SERVPRO is your Water Damage, Remediation Partner.

Pipes and hoses linked to supply and waste lines threaded through and behind built-in cabinets can require clever tactics for water damage restoration in Nampa kitchens. Perhaps the piping to an ice maker or hoses between the dishwasher and the under-sink plumbing develop leaks. Water then saturates cabinets and collects underneath, sometimes without anyone immediately noticing the excess water.

Should a Nampa Homeowner Wait for Hidden Water to Drain Away or Evaporate Naturally?

Water is exceptionally corrosive to structural components, which is why SERVPRO does not recommend a wait-and-see strategy to manage residual moisture after burst pipes. Ignoring water puddled under appliances or shelving or collected behind walls permits it to soak into building materials and cause deterioration. Black mold growth is a possibility if 24 to 48 hours pass without water removal and moisture reduction.

How Do Trained Technicians Approach Hidden Water Damage Emergency Services?

Our Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC-trained crews are familiar with kitchen plumbing problems, using restoration industry best practices to make moisture issues in Nampa “Like it never even happened.” Prying off toe kicks reveals the under-cabinet cavities where the water lurks. Our technicians then:

  • Use commercial-grade extractors to suction the standing water
  • Position low profile air movers to facilitate evaporation
  • Place and monitor dehumidifiers until the cabinet moisture levels return to normal.

Training and experience are why SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell delivers successful outcomes when you need hidden water damage repairs. Call (208) 466-5000 for assessment and advice.

Assistance from Mold Removal Companies like SERVPRO Ensures Convenience

Mold can be bothersome whether it develops in your property once or keeps recurring after your efforts to remove it. For most people, mold infestations exhibit several signs. However, some issues stand out and can be disturbing, especially if the mold keeps recurring.

One of the advantages of hiring mold removal companies in Nampa is the immediate assistance in dealing with the infestation's annoying aspects. Among the issues readily dealt with include:

  • Musty odors
  • Patches on surfaces
  • Darkened grout lines on tiled surfaces
  • Weakened materials or finishes

After inspecting your property, SERVPRO uses different approaches to tackle the problem, ensuring a positive outcome. If You Ever Need Mold Remediation in Nampa, Call SERVPRO.

Nampa, Idaho, is located in the Boise metro area and has nearly 100,000 people. Over the years, the city has grown to attract both more residents and businesses. The location near Boise and in the middle of vast vineyards and wineries has made the city a popular place.

The History of a Town Built on a Railroad

Nampa's history goes back to the 1880s when a Union Pacific subsidiary started building railroad tracks to the west. In 1883, the Oregon Short Line Railway subsidiary endeavored to construct rails from Granger, Wyoming to Huntington, Oregon. The railways would now give travelers from the east a much safer way to get out to the country's far western part.

Once the tracks were in place, different towns started popping up about every 10 to 15 miles on the railway. Nampa was one of these several towns that served as railroad stops. To this day, nobody can be sure how the city got its name, but it was well-known that many of the towns along the Oregon Short Line were given peculiar names.

Some historians think that the name may have come from the Native American word "namb," which means "moccasins" or "footprints." The native people of the region were known to fill their moccasins with sagebrush during the cold winters, making their footprints larger than usual.

In 1885, Alexander and Hannah Duffes homesteaded on a 160-acre plot of land east of Caldwell to turn the land into a town. In 1886, Duffes, with help from his friend James McGee formed the Nampa Land and Improvement Company and divided the land into multiple lots. Since Duffes was a very religious man, he originally wanted a town that had no saloons. In the early days, Duffes refused to sell lots to anyone who wished to build a tavern on the property. In 1888, a local newspaper cited that the town had 28 businesses, including three saloons.

Things to do in Nampa

  • Visit the town's breweries: Nampa is now the home to breweries, including the Crescent Brewery, Messenger Pizza and Brewery, Mother Earth Brew Co., and the Prefunk Beer Bar.
  • Check out the region's natural attractions: Nampa is the home to the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge, and several recreational opportunities exist at the Bogus Basin, Lake Lowell, and the Boise River.
  • Tour Idaho's wine country: The region consists of several vineyards and over a dozen wineries, including the Annadelle Winery, Bitner Vineyards, and the Fujishin Family Cellars.

How Does SERVPRO Mitigate Contaminated Surfaces After a Flood in Nampa?

10/31/2020 (Permalink)

Contact SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell at (208) 466-5000 for expert flood damage service.

Our Technicians Use a Variety of Proprietary Cleaning Agents to Restore Nampa Homes

No matter where you live, it can flood. Severe weather, torrential rainfall, and even melting snow can cause flooding. When floodwaters rage through Nampa, they invade homes, leaving disaster in its path. Water extraction and cleanup are a primary concern.

How are Homes Affected by Floodwater?
During natural disasters, 90% of the damage is caused by flooding. Floodwater is Category III, meaning it is highly contaminated. Sewage, bacteria, debris, and medical waste can all be found in the water pouring into your home due to flooding. Standing water is not only a biohazard, but the moisture alone can damage structural elements and the contents of the residence. Flood damage in Nampa homes needs professional mitigation.

Decontaminating the Premises
Water extraction and sanitation are dealt with before structural drying begins. Preventing the spread of microbes is an immediate concern. Our EPA-registered proprietary cleaning agents remove contaminants and help with foul odors. We employ the following:
    •    Antimicrobials – These products inhibit microbe growth and development, preventing them from spreading.
    •    Biocides –Chemical agents that mitigate living organisms. Viricides and fungicides are in this group and deal with microbial sanitary concerns.
    •    Disinfectant – Common disinfectants include quaternaries, alcohol, chlorines, and phenols. This class of antimicrobials kills up to 99% of germs.
    •    Sanitizers – Cleaning agents that reduce microbial levels to safe levels.
    •    Sporicides – remediate bacterial growth and fungus. Used for mold.

Contaminated surfaces get treated with the appropriate cleaning agent. As cleanup and restoration move forward, items are re-treated as needed. Our technicians are experts in flood damage control. Our goal is to return your home to preloss condition, if possible.

Can Fires Affect the Structure of a Nampa Home?

10/25/2020 (Permalink)

Dealing with fire damage is a tedious job. Contact SERVPRO for remediation and mitigation services for your home.

Housefires Can Cause Extreme Harm to your Nampa Home. SERVPRO Fire Damage Restoration Services Can Aid the Recovery.

What is structural damage caused by fire?

When a house fire affects your Nampa home, the first materials to combust are likely to be contents or structural components like cabinets or fittings—usually building assembly guards against fire, preventing the heat from affecting the structural frame of the building. In situations where a fire burns long enough, and at a high enough temperature, it can begin to affect the property's structural integrity. Heat damage can lead to charring of the internal structure, but it is usually better to restore these issues than replace load-bearing materials.

How is wood frame restoration conducted?

  • When frames need replacing, we consult a structural engineer or building inspector before performing the necessary tasks.
  • Scraping smoke residues from the frame before installing new wood is essential to preventing odor.
  • After sandblasting or installing a new frame, it is vital to finish the wood with a lacquer or varnish to protect it from future harm.

When is it necessary to replace a structural framework after a property fire?

We endeavor to perform fire damage restoration in your Nampa home before opting for replacing materials. The cost of sourcing and reinstalling the wooden framework can be high. Our technicians first attempt to return the materials to a preloss condition. First, we inspect the frame and perform a pre-test to judge whether damages are a sign of scorching or charring rather than smoke residue soiling. In most situations, fires affect the visual appearance of structure but not its integrity. If the structure is significantly weakened, we can consider a replacement.

What techniques are used for structural frame restoration?

Light to moderate residues can often benefit from dry cleaning or wet cleaning using detergents.

Significant smoke residues may require an abrasive technique using blasting equipment to remove wood layers.

The sealing damaged frame can help to control odors and is often the preferred method of restoration.

Addressing the structural framework of a fire-damaged home relies on experience and expertise. Contact SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell at (208) 466-5000.

How Sensitive Are Wood Floors to Water Damages in Nampa?

9/12/2020 (Permalink)

Water disasters can quickly get out of control and pool along flooring surfaces.

Standing water and moisture threats can become destructive to exposed wood flooring in your Nampa home, ultimately requiring removal and replacement.

The flooring in your Nampa home can often be one of the worst affected areas after a water disaster. The pooling of water can often occur along these materials, allowing for absorption in sensitive surfaces like wood and carpeting. Low permeance materials for flooring and other construction needs are often expensive, making their use sparse when building modern homes. Exposure to wood flooring can be destructive without immediate attention from water restoration companies like our SERVPRO team. Our fast response in these crises ensures the structural elements receive the attention they require after a water disaster.

When any of the structural elements in your home become impacted by exposure, water damage repair for Nampa properties becomes inevitable. Before we can determine what steps might be necessary to restore or repair damaged wood flooring, we must first understand how severe it has become. We use advanced technologies and devices like thermal imagery, hygrometers, and moisture meters to identify damp pockets and the concentration of water damage beyond the surface. This is vital to determine when the water has moved beyond wood planks and affects subflooring material. Understanding the collected data hinges on a knowledge of the three primary water states when damaging wood flooring or framework.

Free – Surface damages are often the easiest to address and can get removed with conventional extraction and specialty squeegee wands. In this state, water has yet to alter any aspect of the wood.

Trapped – When water begins to absorb into the individual planks that make up flooring, this penetration can become the initial stages of more destructive damage. Trapped moisture can also often get removed with specialty equipment like floor mat drying systems.

Bound – When water molecules bond with the composition of wood, swelling, and other distortion occurs. Often, the initial signs for wood flooring are warping around the seams at the individual plank's edges. Once moisture has become bound to the wood, there are no other options than to remove the damaged materials and replace them.

Do Finishes on Floors Affect Permeance?
Coatings and finishes on wood flooring can often add a layer of protection against moisture penetration and absorption. Finished flooring becomes less permeable to water based on the material used to provide a polished finish. Over a prolonged period, the exposure of water can dull a sheen on plank flooring, requiring cleaning with thymol or citrus-based cleansers to restore its shine. Some of the most common finishes on the hardwood flooring and other wood surfaces include:

    •    Varnish
    •    Oil-Based Finish
    •    Polyurethane
    •    Shellac

What Are Signs Wood Flooring Needs Replacing?
Your flooring can tell you a lot about the damage that it receives from saturation and water exposure. Regardless of the restorative actions required to recover the rest of the property, more extended periods of exposure with the flooring materials often require removal and replacement. The damage to your floors can be more easily identified with understanding the severity of present water and moisture. While discovery devices like moisture meters are vital in the job scoping phase, they can also help to continually monitor the progress of drying and even the deterioration of materials based on longer periods of oversaturation. Physical signs that bound water exists can be:

    •    Swelling
    •    Distortion
    •    Warping

Can Controlled Demolition Save Money?
The practice of only removing the damaged portions of flooring and wall systems can reduce the number of materials that must get replaced. Ultimately, controlled demolition practices can make reconstruction and repair more efficient by preparing the installation site entirely for the build-back with defined moisture drylines.

Is Mold a Threat After Water Damages?
With any water loss situation, the threat of mold and microbial growth should not get ignored. In as little as 48 hours of exposure, sensitive organic matter like drywall, wood flooring, and underlying materials can facilitate colonies. Drying can take several days, especially with hardwoods, making the possibilities of fungal colonization something our SERVPRO team must prepare to face. We have a roster of qualified mold remediation specialists who can respond with our water restoration technicians. In some situations, further demolition might be required even without oversaturation concerns when mold colonies have become a severe threat.

Water disasters can quickly get out of control and pool along flooring surfaces. With semi-porous wood materials, it is not unlikely for these elements to become damaged after a disaster. Give our SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell team a call to help anytime at (208) 466-5000.

Niches of SERVPRO Cleaning in Your Nampa Municipal Building

When you consider the level of cleaning that our SERVPRO team does for Nampa structures, the common belief is that this has to coincide with some form of disaster or emergency. In truth, the same premier cleaning service that we provide commercial buildings after water and fire loss events is available at any time to revitalize the look and feel of your business for your employees and customers.

There are many levels of commercial cleaning for your Nampa municipal building, and some of these actions get taken daily by the custodial team hired by the municipality. With a lack of cutting-edge equipment, powerful products, and practical techniques, this group of workers in your building can only do so much to improve the appearance and function of your facility. Our restoration technicians can help your business in many areas.

Carpet Cleaning

One of the areas where our SERVPRO team gets most utilized in municipal structures is with the cleaning and revitalization of carpeted areas. Even in this limited niche, we have multiple approaches, including bonnet cleaning, hot water extraction, and deluxe preconditioning and rinsing. The objective is to complete this cleaning after hours to limit traffic to maximize results.

Wall & Surface Cleaning

We have multiple products that can help with wipe and foam cleaning approaches when soiling and staining have become factors in your facility. The products we use depend on the specific materials affected and the type of damage that exists.

Deodorization

Areas like the bathroom and poorly ventilated rooms in the municipal building can sometimes begin to hold a stale or unpleasant smell. Deodorization practices like our thermal fogging can neutralize these unwelcome odors efficiently. For small enclosed areas and recesses, along with large attic crawl areas, we can place odor-killing beads that work to provide continuing protection.

Graffiti Removal

As a municipality, you are always going to have to deal with unfortunate circumstances like vandalism. A common structural concern is graffiti. Our IICRC-Trained Technicians can utilize abrasive cleaning techniques to remove spray paint and other substances from exterior walls. Our specially formulated cleaning products typically can restore walls and other elements of your building to preloss condition, “Like it never even happened.”

Our SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell team can help your structure to look its best, even when disasters or unforeseen mishaps have not occurred. You can reach our professionals anytime at (208) 466-5000.

Our Experts Discuss How To Avoid Fire Damage In Your Caldwell Home

12/27/2019 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

Avoiding Fire Damage in Caldwell Homes with Christmas Trees

During the holidays, many people put up trees and other decorations of the season. Misuse and malfunctions can lead to fire damage with tragic results.

In Caldwell homes, avoid fire damage by inspecting your tree every day during the holiday season. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), electrical failures and malfunctions were responsible for nearly 30-percent of tree fires.

Why SERVPRO?
The technicians know any home disaster, but particularly fire damage is devastating for homeowners, and they approach the situation with both compassion and professionalism. Through the use of their advanced restoration techniques and state-of-the-art equipment, in many cases, they can save items from being counted as a fire loss.

Tips for Avoiding Fire Loss During the Holidays
If you have a live tree in your home, be sure to water it every single day. According to the NFPA, a dry tree burns more rapidly than newspaper. Also, if the water in the container goes below where the cut on the trunk, a seal forms, and the tree cannot absorb water after that.

Safety with Lights Indoors
Check string lights to ensure there are no loose connections or frayed cords. If you must use an extension cord, use only one and make sure any lighting used carries UL-approval. Make sure lights are off before turning in for the night.

Outdoor Lighting Tips
When hanging lights outdoors, make sure connectors are off the ground and located away from metal gutters. Use only lighting designed for exterior use.

Candle Use
While the soft light emitting by a candle is beautiful, it is dangerous for use on a Christmas tree. When burning candles, it is a good practice to keep them at least 12-inches away from items that can catch fire. Candles are responsible for 2 out of 5 fires that started from home decorations.

SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell at (208) 466-5000 is ready to help homeowners with fire damage 24/7 and use their equipment and expertise to make it, “Like it never even happened.”

How SERVPRO Uses a Drying System to Restore your Nampa Home

11/14/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO is always ready to dry your water damaged home. Call us today!

Selecting A Drying System To Limit Water Damage In Your Nampa Area Home

The evaporation of water on your Nampa area property typically adds moisture to the air as it moves from wet materials into the air. Dehumidification should always remove moisture from the air as fast as evaporation occurs. To dry a structure correctly, technicians must use a perfectly balanced drying system.

If the drying system technicians use to address water damage in your Nampa area home is not balanced, secondary damages may occur. However, by balancing the rate of evaporation with dehumidification, the technician can use rapid drying methods to speed up the entire process.

There are two types of drying systems SERVPRO technicians can use when addressing water damage on your property. An open drying system exchanges moist air inside for drier air outside of the structure. To exchange air, technicians open windows and use box fans or air movers to ventilate the area.

An open system only works when the outside air has fewer grains per pound (GPP) than the inside air. For the most effective drying conditions, outside air should offer high temperatures and low relative humidity (RH). The difference between the specific humidity of inside air versus that of outside air is also significant.

SERVPRO technicians only use an open drying system when the outside air is at least 20 GPP less than measurements for inside air. Using an open system also has certain disadvantages:

  • Leaving windows open creates a security risk.
  • Energy costs are high since this system effectively heats the outdoors.
  • The weather may change.
  • Additional monitoring is required.

A closed system uses containment to cordon off the affected area from both the outside air and air from unaffected areas of the structure. SERVPRO technicians then use dehumidification equipment to remove moisture from the inside air. For this system to work, technicians use air movers and dehumidifiers to control the indoor environment, maintaining an RH of 40% or lower.

SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell has qualified technicians with the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, to perform quality cleanup and restoration services throughout the area, call today. (208) 466-5000

Our Experts Provide Top-Notch Service In Nampa

8/3/2019 (Permalink)

Let SERVPRO demonstrate the proof of our commitment to excellent customer service.

Commitment To High-Quality Customer Service Is Why SERVPRO Stands Out In Nampa

All members of our disaster recovery team are invested in many aspects of the Nampa area, proud to be involved in local charities and business organizations. We give back to the communities that nurture us by striving to become the premier cleaning and restoration company available to residents of The Heart of the Treasure Valley. Our Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-trained managers and technicians reliably deliver mitigation and remediation services that meet or exceed the industry's best practices.

Water Damage
Residential customers know how frustrating unexpected water damage in Nampa can be.  If a water loss resolves incompletely, the corrosive effects continue, destroying building materials and exposing your home to secondary damage such as mold infestation and persistent odors. Knowing this, you might feel inadequate to tackle the tasks on your own. Unlike ordinary cleanup jobs, water incursions need professional assessment and recovery efforts. SERVPRO is available for consultation 24/7.

We arrive with all the equipment, tools, and products necessary for water mitigation and remediation stocked on our signature green service vehicles. As our crew leads design a personalized mitigation and remediation plan, technicians stand ready to roll out the water removal and drying equipment without delay. Speed is essential when dealing with water loss. Many structural components can be saved if water removal proceeds promptly, in accordance with our restoration over replacement focus.

Once the pumps and water extractors complete their jobs, the structural drying phase begins. Moisture levels are obtained using sensitive devices and a drying plan implemented. Our technicians understand psychrometry, the science of drying, from IICRC coursework in Applied Structural Drying (ASD). A balance of temperature, humidity, and air movement allows our team to force water out of structures as a vapor. That vapor is condensed or absorbed by dehumidifiers for permanent removal from your home.

Fire Damage
Recovery from fire damage to your Nampa home is a complicated process. Partnering with our IICRC-trained and experienced managers and technicians can make this experience easier to bear for you and your family. After you are sure your loved ones are safe, and the firefighters are nearing the end of their job,  calling our emergency number should be your highest priority. We answer day or night, scheduling a fire assessment as soon as possible.

Resist the temptation to start cleanup on your own. SERVPRO technicians have personal protective gear and specialized equipment, tools, and products to manage a fire scenario effectively and safely. Large quantities of water and chemicals from extinguishing efforts are likely present. Electrocution and slip and fall risks are high on the scene. We know how to proceed, and take care to start the water removal and structural drying immediately after arriving.

We complete tasks systematically, aiming toward returning your home to pre-fire condition. Technicians complete soot removal, charring remediation, and deodorization, steadily working while following the fire restoration industry's best practices. If only a small space is severely compromised, we can contain the affected area while you and your family live in other rooms during the projects. Throughout, we are in constant communication with you and your insurance carrier to ensure proper documentation of claims and minimization of your out of pocket expenses.

Mold Remediation
Even in a relatively arid climate like that of Nampa, mold damage is possible and stressful for a homeowner to manage. Mold spores are everywhere in the environment, indoors and out. They primarily float on air currents or settle on surfaces, invisible to the eye and benign in effect. The problems with mold arise when even one spore encounters a source of moisture. After absorption, rapid growth follows, often in hidden cavities where small leaks in plumbing or exterior structures occur.

A musty smell is frequently the first sign; something is amiss. Staining or feathery growth follows on organic surfaces or places where bits of organic matter collects, like on tiles with soap scum. If you even suspect mold activity in your home, give SERVPRO a call for an assessment and remediation plan based on the protocols developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

We do not encourage panic if mold establishes colonies inside your home. Although some susceptible individuals suffer irritation of allergic reactions to mold, the building materials comprising your home are clearly at risk as mold consumes the surface upon which it grows. Our reputable mold remediation crews contain the moldy area with physical barriers, sealing the perimeter with air scrubbing equipment. We then remove the mold by scraping, brushing, or mild abrasives like soda blasting. After we dispose of the moldy waste per local regulations, we disinfect the area with EPA-registered antimicrobials to inhibit further growth. If you eliminate the water source as well, mold rebound is far less likely.

Storm Damage
Extreme weather is always leading the news, and if flood damage afflicts your Nampa home, you are not alone. Our IICRC-trained team of Water Damage Restoration (WRT) and Applied Structural Damage (ASD) technicians are ready to help you overcome even a catastrophic storm damage event affecting your home.

Even though the average precipitation in our area is below the national average, when high winds, torrential rains and flash-flooding top off the yearly total in a brief period, your dwelling can be in trouble. SERVPRO offers a range of services starting with securing your wind-damaged exterior with boards and tarps. As that activity progresses, crew leads assess interior flood damage, planning for rapid water removal, containment, and legal disposal of the highly contaminated fluid.

Trapped water releases when we use controlled demolition techniques like flood cuts. Once all water evacuates, we use EPA-registered cleaning and disinfecting agents to eliminate the growth of blood, or waste-borne pathogens floodwater carries. Thorough drying with our commercial-grade air movers and dehumidifiers completes the mitigation and remediation work. We work with your insurance company, keeping you informed as we arrange for interior and exterior repairs and rebuilding.

When the owners of a business call the communities they serve home, customers benefit. Let SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell demonstrate the proof of our commitment to excellent customer service when you schedule a disaster assessment by calling (208) 466-5000.

How Water Damages Hardwood Floors in Nampa

3/25/2019 (Permalink)

Hardwood and water do not mix. SERVPRO's trained professionals can mitigate the water damage.

Drying Saturated Waterproofed Floors in Your Nampa Home

Hardwood floors present aesthetic appeal to your Nampa home, but it can also be susceptible to saturation and the absorption of water loss effects when they occur. From burst pipes to overflowing toilet reservoirs, these loss incidents can happen with no warning and leave you contending with several inches of standing water in the affected areas. With many homeowners choosing waterproof wood flooring materials for areas like their bathroom, they unknowingly assume that the material is impervious to penetration from standing water and exposure.

While these waterproofed materials installed in your home might get designed to resist moisture and direct penetration better than other options, without effective water removal from trained professionals in Nampa, your home is still susceptible to widespread water damage. Our SERVPRO professionals have highly effective extraction equipment that can remove standing water fast from the affected areas of your home.

Waterproof plank flooring does have a specific density, composition, and an added coating to prevent direct penetration from standing water. However, areas like the tongue and groove where these planks seam together present penetration points and vulnerabilities for the standing water to bleed through over a brief exposure. As the planks become exposed to this moisture, they can begin to distort and swell, allowing moisture to penetrate even further to impact the subflooring.

Our SERVPRO professionals arrive with powerful extraction equipment for the bathroom such as portable sump pumps and wet-vacs with extraction wands. Once the excess gets removed, our team can utilize thermal imagery to gain perspective on moisture penetration and damage to the flooring and other structural elements surrounding the affected area. We can set up our high-efficiency drying equipment to begin removing this moisture content from exposed materials to preserve both the flooring and construction elements like your drywall, vanity, and cabinetry.

While waterproof flooring in water-prone rooms of your home is a wise investment, they are not entirely able to prevent moisture exposure and damage without prompt action from trained professionals like our SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell team. Let us help you make it “Like it never even happened” by calling (208) 466-5000.

Are Waterborne Pathogens A Concern After Water Removal In Nampa?

3/22/2019 (Permalink)

Nampa Homes Get Water Removal from SERVPRO, Helps to Prevent Waterborne Pathogens Issues

SERVPRO Extracts Water and Disinfects Damaged Properties

Sometimes you need water removal in your home. All it takes is a broken appliance or a leaking pipe to cause a surprisingly large flood. Luckily SERVPRO is on hand to deal with the situation in your Nampa home quickly and professionally.

Something our customers sometimes worry about when it comes to water removal in Nampa is whether they need to be concerned about waterborne pathogens. It is an unfortunate fact that water can carry a range of different pathogens.

Some of the most common waterborne diseases include cholera, hepatitis, shigellosis, amebiasis, typhoid fever, and viral gastroenteritis. It is a hair raising list to be sure. Bacteria, viruses, and protozoa in water all cause diseases, and the conditions listed here have a range of highly unpleasant symptoms.

However, do not panic quite yet. Outbreaks of waterborne diseases are relatively rare and are unlikely to happen as a result of your leaking pipe or broken dishwasher! Most waterborne diseases are caught by drinking contaminated water – they are not transmitted through the skin. Therefore, even if there is a disease present in your water leak, it is unlikely to harm you.

Water treatment plants also go to great lengths to ensure the water they deliver is safe for the purpose. Filters, flushing programs, and the use of disinfectants are all part of the effort to ensure the water piped to your home is safe for you and your family.

So, it seems that waterborne pathogens are not an immediate risk after a leak in your home. Naturally, you still want to get the water removed as quickly as possible, just to be on the safe side and also to restore your home and make it habitable again.

That is where SERVPRO comes in. Our IICRC-certified technicians arrive with pumps, extraction tools, dehumidifiers, air movers, and moisture meters, ready to remove the water from your home. We also establish a drying goal and do not leave until we meet that goal and restore your home “Like it never even happened.”

Stopping and Removing Mold Damage in Nampa

3/22/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO Can Remove Moisture as Part of a Mold Remediation Service in the Nampa Area

Understanding Moisture and a Food Source Help to Prevent Mold Growth

Mold spores are common to every home in Nampa. In their dormant state, they are no more of a threat than common dust. It is only when the spores are affected by the right factors, do they become a problem in area homes.

Nampa mold damage can only happen when spores have enough moisture to grow within a range of 68 to 86 degrees and find a suitable food source. SERVPRO understands that since that is the normal range for most homes year-round, the best way we can eliminate mold and remediate the damage is to remove the water that provides a starting point and the food source spores need to grow the colony further.

Our primary task then is to find and eliminate the leak or another source of moisture. Most mold growth in a home begins due to a problem with a pipe or a faulty appliance that leaks or seeps water like a dishwasher or a poorly connected garbage disposal. If we find the growth began inside a wall or a crawlspace, then the source is more likely a leak in the roof or an outside wall that allows water into the home. SERVPRO technicians are trained to find and repair these leaks if they are minor.

After stopping the water, we spray anti-microbial agents on all visible mold. These chemicals kill mold on contact, making it harmless once more. If the mold has had enough time to extend hyphae into building material like drywall, we remove what is now a food source. Hyphae look like roots and serve the same purpose for mold: Search for food. These mold extensions quickly burrow into drywall and other natural fibers like cotton and wool. Some spores even feed on home insulation. Since many of these building materials are difficult to clean, it is often cheaper to replace infested material than to try and clean it.

SERVPRO of Nampa / Caldwell has removed and remediated mold damage for Idaho residents over the last twenty years. For more information about what SERVPRO can do to help you return your home to safe, dry environment, call us today at (208) 466-5000. We are here for you.

How Contamination Can Spread After A Nampa Flood

1/25/2019 (Permalink)

Flood water can contaminate your home call our experts to restore your home so you can safely return.

Why SERVPRO Deals with Contamination from Flood Damage in Nampa Effectively

A flooding incident in Nampa comprises of many aspects including soiling the structure and its contents with silt, mud and other waste materials. It can also cause structural damages by sweeping away some sections of the building or by soaking materials leading to compromised structural integrity. Perhaps the most distressing aspect of floods is contamination which even though not visible can have serious health implications. Our professional restoration services help property owners deal with contamination from flooding “Like it never even happened.”

Limiting the spread of contamination after flood damage in Nampa is essential. Contamination can spread in different ways including the transfer of floodwaters to previously unaffected areas or extended exposure which fuels microbial growth. Our SERVPRO technicians avoid these outcomes by taking proactive measures. We spray EPA-registered disinfectants in all the flood damaged areas to limit contamination. We also follow standard wastewater disposal procedures when removing the floodwaters to avoid spreading contamination. For example, our truck-mounted water extractors can hold up to 100 gallons allowing us to remove wastewater and dispose of it properly.

Removing all waste materials from the affected area helps eliminate all contaminants. Such removal must also include any affected porous materials because cleaning them might not eliminate all contaminants. Our SERVPRO technicians remove and dispose of the affected carpets and pad. We also perform flood cuts on the walls two feet above the waterline allowing us to remove insulation and other porous materials on the walls.

Cleaning the property is necessary because apart from removing soils and other debris, it also helps remove contaminants. Our SERVPRO technicians use pressure washers during cleaning. Our water extractors also have heating capabilities which help in restorative cleaning as well. We also use different types of professional cleaning agents including antimicrobial agents which limit the development of microorganisms and disinfectants which destroy microorganisms.

Controlling contamination is straightforward when a professional is involved. Call SERVPRO of Nampa/Caldwell to help. You can reach us at (208) 466-500 any time.
